Abbey to Run for Charity

Come and join us for Abbey to Run for Charity, our annual charity event in the heart of Colchester raising money for local charities. Our nominated charity this year is Next Chapter.  Formerly known as Colchester & Tendring Women's Refuge, Next Chapter is a domestic abuse charity working across the areas of Tendring, Colchester, Maldon, Chelmsford, Braintree & Uttlesford.  They provide free and confidential services to support the most vulnerable women, men and children in our area who are currently experiencing or have previously experienced domestic abuse. For further information about the amazing work they do locally, please visit their website at

How far will you decide to run on the day, it's entirely up to you in our 6hr timed event! One lap of 5k will gain you legendary status and your well deserved, bespoke finishers medal and of course your goody bag! There will only be 150 entries available so don't leave it too late to enter! After the event, feel free to relax in the bar where refreshments will be available and then come and cheer the remaining runners home as they come through the start/finish area to finish their race or go round again!

The gently undulating, traffic-free course on the tarmac footpaths around the Abbey Fields Open Space in Colchester will give you the opportunity to run as many or as few laps as you wish within the time limit of 6 hours. The loops will be just over 5km in distance and one is all you need to complete to be a finisher and get your well-deserved medal! If you wish to run further it is entirely up to you on the day, you will need to do 4 loops for a half marathon, 8 laps to cover full marathon distance, and then if you choose to continue, the clock will be your only limiting factor! Don't worry, you don't have to count your laps yourself, the event will be fully chip timed so you can just concentrate on the running!

With an aid station at the end of every lap, you will have the ability to fuel yourself without having to carry everything you might need. You may leave a bag with your specific requirements at the aid station, for you to raid as you see fit! Alternatively, there will be all sorts of goodies and also water and squash to keep you going, should you feel like a change!

PLEASE NOTE – In an attempt to reduce our race-day plastic waste, this is a CUPLESS event!  We will provide all drinks and refreshments as per our usual aid stations, but you will need to provide a receptacle of some description.  It can be a reusable cup, soft flask or whatever vessel you choose, even your very own running shoe at the end of every lap, but we won’t be providing any cups at all, and there will be no drinking from jugs either!  We will, of course, be more than happy to assist you with the filling of whatever you choose as normal. If you wish, you are able to purchase a Hydrapak Speedcup online for £2 as part of your registration, or for £2:50 on race day.

An opportunity to run on a fast, lapped course, without the need to carry your usual ‘clobber’ and with a sought after, unique, bespoke medal, this promises to be a fantastic event for runners of all abilities.  Hare & Tortoise Running limited are a UKA Affiliated Race Organiser & the event will be run under a Race Permit issued by the TRA. This event will qualify as a 100 Marathon Club event.
